TermsConsignor rates

How it works

Rate rows and the Default

In short

A consignor rate is a list. Each row gives a product, variant, product type, collection or price range its own rate, and the Default at the bottom covers everything else. A sale reads down the list and takes the first row it matches.

AdminIn the app: Vendors, then a vendor, then Terms

Most vendors need one consignor rate. Some need a different one for part of what they sell: a higher share on large pieces, a lower one on a line that costs you more to sell. Rows do that without a second vendor or a spreadsheet.

How a list reads#

On a vendor's Terms tab, their consignor rate is a list that "reads top to bottom. A sale takes the first row it matches."

RowApplies toConsignor rate
1Collection: Workshops50% of revenue
2Price range: from $300.0070% of revenue
Default60% of revenue

Example With Alder Ceramics' list above:

  • A $45.00 workshop ticket takes row 1 and earns 50%.
  • A $420.00 platter takes row 2 and earns 70%.
  • The $120.00 mug matches neither row, so it takes the Default: 60%.
  • A $350.00 workshop takes row 1, because row 1 comes first. Order matters.

The Default is always last. It covers whatever the rows above it didn't claim.

What a row can apply to#

Applies toCovers
ProductOne product, every variant of it
VariantOne variant, like a size or a colour
Product typeEvery product with that type in Shopify
CollectionEvery product in that Shopify collection
Price rangeEvery item whose price in Shopify is in the range. From $50.00 Up to $100.00 covers $50.00 to $99.99. No top leaves it open

A collection marked Shopify decides is one Shopify fills by its own conditions, so what the row covers can change without you touching it.

Add a row#

  1. On the vendor's Terms tab, press Add consignor rate.

  2. Under Applies to, choose what it's for and search for it.

The line underneath says what it covers: "Covers 12 of their products, including Speckled bowl."

  3. Set the consignor rate for it, then place it in the list.

If some of those products are already paid on a row above, it says so: a row higher in the list wins. Move the new one up if it should take them.

  4. Press Add consignor rate to save it.

The new row applies from the next sale. Sales already made keep the rate they had.

Reorder, change or remove#

  • Reorder: drag a row by its handle, or focus it and use the arrow keys. A toast offers Undo.
  • Change: press the row. See Change a consignor rate.
  • Remove: press its remove button. "Earlier sales keep the rate they were paid on," and Undo puts it back.

Every change is kept in Consignor rate history under the list, each version with the day it started.

Shop-wide rows#

You can add rows to the shop-wide consignor rate in Settings, then Terms too. A vendor on the shop-wide consignor rate reads their own rows first, then the shop-wide rows, marked Shop-wide in their list, then the Default. See Shop-wide terms and a vendor's own.

When it looks wrong#

A sale took the Default instead of a row#

Open the sale; its working names the row it took. Usually the product wasn't in the row's collection or price range when it sold, or a row above it matched first. Fix the row or the order, and later sales follow. To correct the sale itself, add an adjustment. See Adjustments and corrections.

"Nothing of theirs matches this yet"#

No product of theirs is in that collection, type or price range right now. The row still applies the moment one is.

Common questions#

Which row wins if a product matches two?
The higher one. A sale takes the first row it matches, reading down, so put the more specific row above the general one. More
Can I set a rate for one variant only?
Yes. Choose Variant under Applies to. More
Does a price range use the sale price or the price in Shopify?
The item's price in Shopify, before any discount on the order. More
Do new rows change sales already made?
No. A row applies from the next sale. Sales already made keep the rate they had. More
