Change a consignor rate
In short
Open the vendor's Terms tab, press their consignor rate, change it, and save. It applies from the next sale; sales already made keep the rate they were worked out with. To put a past sale right, add an adjustment.
Change one vendor's rate#
Open the vendor in Vendors and go to their Terms tab.
Press the consignor rate you want to change: their Default, or one of their rows.
Change consignor rate opens, with an Example sale worked out as you type.
Change the rate, its type or what it's a share of.
Press Save consignor rate.
"Effective from the next sale. Earlier sales keep their rate."
If they're on the shop-wide consignor rate#
Their tab says "Press the consignor rate to give Alder Ceramics their own." When you change it, Save for asks who the change is for:
- Only Alder Ceramics gives them a rate of their own. The shop-wide rate stays as it is.
- Everyone on the shop-wide consignor rate changes the shop's, for every vendor on it.
Change everyone's rate#
Change the shop-wide consignor rate in Settings, then Terms. It applies from the next sale, for every vendor on it. Vendors with their own rate don't change.
Put a vendor back on the shop-wide rate#
On their Terms tab, press Use the shop-wide consignor rate. It reads back what happens before you confirm: their own Default ends today, they're paid the shop-wide rate from now on, and earlier sales keep their rate.
Why past sales don't change#
A sale is worked out once, on the rate in force the day it sold, and that working is part of the record your vendor can see. If a change reached back, a vendor could open a sale they'd already checked and find a different number. So a new rate only ever applies forward.
Every version is kept in Consignor rate history under the list, with the day it started.
When the old rate was wrong#
If sales were worked out on a rate that was wrong, change the rate so later sales are right, then put the past ones right with an adjustment: a line on the vendor's next payout, with the amount and your reason. Your vendor sees it with the reason, so they know why. See Adjustments and corrections.
Example You agreed 65% with Alder Ceramics but entered 60%. Ten sales came to $1,000.00 of revenue at 60%, $600.00. At 65% they'd have been $650.00. Change the rate to 65%, then add a $50.00 adjustment: "Rate was 60%, agreed 65%, sales 3 to 16 Sep".
Common questions#
- Can a new rate start on a later date?
- No. A consignor rate applies from the next sale after you save it. To start it on the 1st, change it on the 1st. More
- Do sales waiting for a rate get the new one?
- Yes. A sale that sold while a vendor had no consignor rate waits, and is worked out with the rate you set as soon as you save it. More
- Will my vendor be told the rate changed?
- Their page shows the new rate from the day it starts. If they had accepted your written agreement, changed terms ask them to accept it again. More
