# Numbers, rounding and dates

Reference > Lists · Reference · https://vendordue.com/docs/numbers-rounding-dates

**In short:** A vendor's share is rounded once per sale line, half up to the cent, and your share is what's left, so the two always add up to the sale. Payout totals are sums of those lines and never rounded again. VendorDue never converts currency. Every day starts at midnight in your store's time zone.

Who: Admin, Viewer. Where: Everywhere.

Your accountant will ask how VendorDue rounds, which currency it counts in, and when a day ends. Here are the answers, all in one place.

## Rounding

A vendor's share is worked out on each line of a sale and rounded **once**, half up, to the cent. **Your share** is the line's revenue less the vendor's share, so the two always add up to the sale exactly. Nothing is ever lost or made up in rounding.

**A Mossgate Candles candle at 55%** (example)

| | |
| --- | ---: |
| Revenue | $13.50 |
| Consignor rate | 55% |
| **Vendor's share, $7.425 rounded half up** | **$7.43** |
| **Your share, $13.50 less $7.43** | **$6.07** |

- **Fixed price per unit** and **You keep a fixed amount** are exact amounts, so nothing rounds.
- **Tiers** round each tier's part once, half up, and add them.
- A **price range** row looks at the price of one unit, rounded half up, to decide which row applies.
- A **refund** takes back the same part of the vendor's share as the part of revenue refunded, rounded once, half up. The last refund on a line takes back exactly what's left, so refunds together never take back more than the line earned.
- A **payout** total is the sum of its lines. It's never rounded again, so the lines on your vendor's page always add up to the total they're paid.

## Tax

Tax is never part of either share. On a store whose prices include tax, VendorDue takes the tax out before working out revenue. On every other store, tax is on its own lines and never touches revenue. Reports show tax you collected on its own: **Tax collected**.

## Currency

VendorDue counts in your store's currency, the one Shopify reports, and **never converts money**. It has no exchange rate of its own.

- **A customer who paid in another currency**: the sale counts at the amount Shopify converted it to. The sale's working shows what they paid in their currency, with the day and rate Shopify used.
- **If you change your store's currency in Shopify**: new sales count in the new one, and payouts from before stay in the old one. Each payout is in one currency.
- **Paying a vendor abroad**: record what you sent, and if a different amount arrived, record that too. See [Record a payment](https://vendordue.com/docs/record-a-payment).

On your screens, amounts show their currency code only once your store holds a second currency. Documents always show it, like "$72.00 USD", because a PDF or an email travels.

## Days and dates

Every day in VendorDue starts at midnight in your store's time zone, the one your Shopify admin uses.

- **A sale's day** is the day Shopify recorded the order, in your time zone.
- **A payout lands** at the start of its day. "Sales up to the day before" means up to 11:59 pm the evening before.
- **A pay day on the 29th, 30th or 31st**: "In a shorter month it lands on the last day."
- **A month** in Reports and tiers is your store's calendar month.

## How things are written

| What | Written like |
| --- | --- |
| A date | 17 Sep 2026 |
| A day heading | Tuesday, 1 September |
| A range | 3 to 30 September 2026 |
| A rate | 60%, 12.5% |
| Money | $1,240.00, or ₹1,24,000.00 in India |
| A payout number | P-2026-0142 |

Dates are written the same way for everyone, whatever your computer's language, so you, your team and your vendors always see the same words.

## Common questions

**My figure is a cent off from my spreadsheet. Why?** Your spreadsheet probably rounds the total. VendorDue rounds each line, half up, and adds the rounded lines. Round each line in your spreadsheet first, and the totals match.

**Why didn't my vendor's share count the sales tax?** Tax belongs to the tax office, not to you or your vendor. Neither share includes it.

**Can I pay a vendor in their own currency?** Yes, by recording what you sent and what arrived. Their payout stays in your store's currency, and the receipt keeps both amounts.
