# Booth rental and antique malls

**In short:** In a booth rental shop or antique mall, dealers keep most of each sale and pay you rent. VendorDue takes the rent off each dealer's payout as a charge, and when a slow month doesn't cover it, shows what they owe you until it's paid.

## The deal

A dealer rents space from you, a booth or a shelf, and stocks it themselves. You run the till and take a small share of each sale, often 10%, and the dealer pays you rent every month. Most malls take the rent out of what they owe the dealer rather than asking for a separate payment.

That's two settings in VendorDue:

| Your deal | In VendorDue |
| --- | --- |
| The dealer keeps 90% of each sale | **Consignor rate:** 90% of revenue |
| $150.00 rent on the 1st of every month | **Charge:** Booth rent, $150.00, every month |

If every dealer pays the same rent, add it once for every vendor: in **Settings > Vendors** under **Charges**, press **Add a charge**, or answer **Add a charge** in Store setup. For a dealer on a different rent, open their **Money** tab and press **Only them** beside the charge: give them their own amount, or press **Don't charge them**. See [Charges and bills](https://vendordue.com/docs/charges-and-bills).

## A good month

Quillfield Goods rents a booth at Fernhill Pottery. On 1 October, their rent is charged: VendorDue issues them a bill for $150.00, numbered like B-2026-0007, which they can read on their page. Their next payout takes it:

**Quillfield Goods' payout** (example)

| | |
| --- | ---: |
| Sales, $680.00 revenue at 90% | $612.00 |
| Booth rent | -$150.00 |
| **Paid to Quillfield Goods** | **$462.00** |

The bill then reads **Taken from** that payout, so you both see where the rent went.

## A slow month

In January, Quillfield Goods sells $80.00 of goods and earns $72.00. That doesn't cover the rent. Nothing lands for them on pay day, because a payout never goes below zero. Instead:

- The bill stays **Open**, and Quillfield Goods appears under **Owed to you** in **Payouts > To pay**, with how long it's been open.
- The $72.00 they earned waits with it. Their next payout that covers the rent takes the bill, and pays them the rest.
- Or they pay you the rent directly. Press **Record money received** on the bill, and say how they paid. Their $72.00 then joins their next payout as usual.

> **Careful:** Recording money received only records it. VendorDue doesn't collect from dealers, and never takes money from anyone's account.

## When a dealer leaves

Set their agreement to end. Once it ends, their charges stop and no new bill is issued. Anything still open, a bill or money they earned, stays on their page until it's settled, and then they move to Archived by themselves. See [Agreements](https://vendordue.com/docs/agreements).

## What booth rental shops ask

**Can I charge rent weekly, or every three months?** Yes. A charge can be once, every week, month, three months or year, or a custom number of days, weeks or months.

**What if a dealer's sales never cover their rent?** Their bills stay open and are listed under Owed to you. They can pay you directly, and you record it with Record money received.

**Can I charge one dealer a different rent?** Yes. On their Money tab, press Only them beside the shop-wide charge and type their own amount. Every other dealer keeps the shop's.

**Do dealers see the rent?** Yes. Each bill is on their page with its number and where it stands, and their payout shows it as a line.
